Burundi Gahahe

9.00

Grown high in the ranges of northern Burundi, Gahahe is a four-time winner of Burundi’s Cup of Excellence.

Founded in 1989, Gahahe has outlasted the Burundi’s decade-long civil war and is now one of the most well equipped wet mills in the country. Almost 600 farmers contribute their cherries and producers hand sort the ripest ones several times before and during processing.

The cherries sun dry with their mucilage intact on raised beds over the course of 21 days. This is a technique usually seen in the highest quality washing stations in Kenya. The extra time when the bean has contact with the mucilage helps to add greater acidity and complexity to the coffee.

With notes of grapefruit and light black tea Gahahe is one of the lightest coffees we have roasted at Grey Seal. It becomes sweeter and crisper as it cools. The lingering aftertaste is of cane sugar
